Facebook Sign In

Facebook is the giant online social media and social networking service company founded by Mark Zuckerberg on February 4, 2004 in Menlo Park, California. Initially, the website’s membership was limited to Harvard students, and later included higher education institutions in the Boston area, the Ivy League schools, and Stanford University. In time, students from various universities and even high school students were able to join in.

In 2006, Facebook was made available to the public, anyone over 13 years old being able to register for the social website (depending on local laws, this age might be higher). Nowadays, with a number of 2.2 billion monthly active users (as of January 2018), Facebook is easily the largest social network in the world, and it gives no sign of slowing down its supremacy!

How to sign in to Facebook

Facebook Sign In

You can access Facebook.com from a large range of devices with Internet connectivity, such as desktop, laptop and tablet computers, and smartphones. More recently, smart TVs, digital photo frames, and even Internet of Things devices can offer you the opportunity to sign in to your Facebook account and keep up to your family and friends’ activities and whereabouts. These are the ways you can sign in to your Facebook account.

Sign in from your computer

From your computer (be it desktop or laptop), you can sign in to Facebook in two ways: using your browser, and for Windows 10 users, through an app that you can download from your Windows store.

  1. Using your browser:
    1. Open a new window in your browser and type: https://www.facebook.com . Then press Enter.
    2. In the top right side of your screen, you will see two fields: “Email or Phone” and “Password”. Write the details of the Facebook account you created, in the corresponding fields, then click on “Log In”. If you forgot your account details, click on “Forgotten my account” and the recovery process will begin.
    3. If this is your first time signing in to Facebook in on this browser, a two-factor authentication will be required. You will receive a 6-digit login code on your mobile phone, through and SMS, that you must enter in the corresponding field on the browser page, and then click on “Continue.” Alternatively, if you are logged in to your Facebook mobile app, you might get a notification asking you to confirm if you have just signed in from another device. You can click on “Yes” or “No”. If you click on “Yes”, you will automatically be signed in to the computer browser page, without the digit-code verification.
  2. Using your Facebook app:
    1. This method is for the moment available only to Windows users. The first step is to download the app on your device. Go to Microsoft Store. In the top right side of the screen, you will see the “Search” bar. Write “Facebook” and press Enter. A list with all the Facebook apps available for Windows will appear. Click on “Facebook” (Free) and in the next window, on “Get”. This will download the app into your computer.
    2. Click on “Open”. This will start the app.
    3. Now, you should see the option to sign in using your current Facebook user information, or to sign up for a Facebook account. Type in your Facebook account’s email address and password and click on “Login”.
    4. You will now be asked if you want to sync your Facebook profile picture and cover photo to your Windows account and lock screen. Click on “Yes” or “No”, depending on your preference.
    5. You are now signed in to your Facebook account through the Windows app. The sleek and clean design of the app might make you prefer using this, instead of the browser version, especially if you like to share photographs – the app makes this easier with a drag & drop feature. Unfortunately, the Windows app does not offer yet all the features of the browser version, or even the Android/iOS mobile apps, but with its rising popularity, it will most likely catch up pretty soon.

  1. Using your mobile browser: the method is identical with the one used for the computer web browser:
    1. Open a new window in your browser and visit https://www.facebook.com/ .
    2. In the top right side of your screen, you will see two fields: “Email or Phone” and “Password”. Write the details in the corresponding fields, then click on “Log In”. If you forgot your account details, click on “Forgotten my account” and the recovery process will begin.
    3. If this is your first time signing in to Facebook here, a two-factor authentication will be required. You will receive a 6-digit login code on your mobile phone, through and SMS, that you must enter in the corresponding field on the page and click on “Continue.” Alternatively, if you are already logged in to your Facebook mobile app, you will get a notification asking you to confirm if you have just signed in from another device. Click on “Yes” and you will automatically be signed in to the mobile phone browser page, without the digit-code verification.
  2. Using the Facebook app. The Facebook app created for mobile devices (be it Android or iOS) is the easiest way through which you can remain connected to your social network and to stay up to date with family and friends, wherever they or you may be.
    1. First, make sure that you have the app downloaded. For Android devices, Facebook comes pre-installed, so you may only need to update the app to the latest version.
    2. Click on the Facebook icon to launch the app.
    3. If you are signed in to another Facebook account on your app, you must sign out first.
    4. Input your email address or phone number (depending on which you used to create your account) into the corresponding field.
    5. Write your password into the corresponding field. If you don’t remember the password of your Facebook account, press on “Forgotten my password?”.
    6. After you wrote your details, press on “Log In”.
    7. If this is your first time signing in to Facebook through the app, a two-factor authentication will be required. You will receive a 6-digit login code on your mobile phone, through and SMS, that you must enter in the corresponding field on the page and click on “Continue.”

Now that you signed in to your Facebook account, you can check your newsfeed, like that amazing photo your friend just posted, wish “Happy Birthday!” to your high school buddy, and even feature a cat video on your timeline! Happy posting!
